We are seeking a talented English teacher at any stage of their career to join our large, experienced and thriving English Department. We are looking for a colleague who is passionate about their subject and is willing to go the extra mile to support pupils. English results have always been strong in the school. In 2022, 79% of pupils gained either English Literature or Language at grade 4+. The Department benefits from having a lead practitioner with a focus upon professional development.

The successful applicant will be able to develop, plan and deliver effective and high quality learning experiences to all students across Key Stage 3 and 4. There is significant opportunity for development and progression in the school and the Trust in due course.

The English curriculum has been reconsidered in recent years and provides an extremely solid base from which to extend the ‘inspirational learning’ mantra of the school. English classrooms are well resourced with an innovative design to facilitate collaborative and active learning.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a large department in a supportive and dynamic school and Trust.

Why William Edwards School?

William Edwards is a large, successful and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, life at William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We are proud of our national reputation for sport and we are also one of only two schools in the East of England to hold the ArtsMark Platinum Award. Character education and providing a wealth of different experiences to our pupils is important to us.

Following the school’s most recent inspection, Ofsted said that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “pupils feel that staff are vigilant and dedicated, and ‘go the extra mile’ to support pupils’ personal and academic needs. Behaviour around the school is calm.”

This is an exciting time to join SWECET. In recent years the Trust has grown to 6 schools with the opening of the new Orsett Heath Academy. SWECET is a realistic, sensible and forward-thinking Trust which genuinely values its workforce.

In return for their dedication to achieving our vision, we offer our colleagues:

  • The support of an experienced Senior Leadership Team
  • A supportive and friendly work environment;
  • Becoming part of a growing organisation;
  • Full and comprehensive induction with training and tailored pathways for individual career progression;
  • Competitive salaries;
  • A two week October half term; and
  • Reduced gym membership at a Trust school.

If you have energy and passion in abundance and would relish the opportunity to be part of our team, we look forward to hearing from you. If you would like to discuss the school and the role or arrange a visit, please email [email protected].
