We are seeking to appoint a highly effective leader with the skills required to lead our standards and safeguarding work.  The school has significant capacity in this area and a key aspect of the role will be overseeing the work of different teams. As well as being the Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will lead the work of our highly experienced and talented pastoral team, the House Leader team, the behaviour support team, our family liaison worker and the youth worker. You will work closely with the Deputy Headteacher responsible for pupil support and inclusion and be a key member of a highly experienced Senior Leadership Team.

It is likely that the successful candidate will have a secure understanding of the contextual challenges of working in a large comprehensive school with a diverse pupil population. Strong and effective interpersonal and behaviour management skills and the ability to lead by example and in a proactive manner, are crucial.

The post-holder will build upon secure foundations to ensure that our safeguarding work is second to none and that high standards of pupil behaviour are always effectively embedded across the school.

Why William Edwards School?

William Edwards is a large, successful and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, life at William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We are proud of our national reputation for sport and we are also one of only two schools in the East of England to hold the ArtsMark Platinum Award. Character education and providing a wealth of different experiences to our pupils is important to us.

Following the school’s most recent inspection, Ofsted said that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “pupils feel that staff are vigilant and dedicated, and ‘go the extra mile’ to support pupils’ personal and academic needs. Behaviour around the school is calm.”

Why SWECET?

This is an exciting time to join SWECET. In recent years the Trust has grown to 6 schools with the opening of the new Orsett Heath Academy. SWECET is a realistic, sensible and forward-thinking Trust which genuinely values its workforce.

In return for their dedication to achieving our vision, we offer our colleagues:

  • The support of an experienced Senior Leadership Team
  • A supportive and friendly work environment;
  • Becoming part of a growing organisation;
  • Full and comprehensive induction with training and tailored pathways for individual career progression;
  • Competitive salaries;
  • A two week October half term; and
  • Reduced gym membership at a Trust school.

If you have energy and passion in abundance and would relish the opportunity to be part of our team, we look forward to hearing from you. If you would like to discuss the school and the role with a senior member of staff or arrange a visit, please email [email protected].
