SWECET Spotlight: Celebrating the achievements of women this International Women’s Day!

This International Women’s Day, we’re taking a moment to shine our SWECET Spotlight on the remarkable contributions of the women across our schools. Hear from just a few of our incredible team members and their recent accomplishments…

Journey of self-growth

“Reflecting on my first-ever placement compared to now, I can see how much I have grown as a person, which is down to the support of the teachers, support staff, and everyone within the Senior Leadership Team at SWECET. In my second placement, I was responsible for teaching maths to a Year 4 class. Maths was never my strongest subject during my school years, and definitely not my favourite. My mentor was instrumental in turning what seemed like a daunting task into a manageable – and truly enjoyable – experience. Getting through my first year as an Early Career Teacher (ECT) has been an incredible achievement for me. I have continued to grow in confidence, and by the time I reached my last placement, teaching felt like second nature, all thanks to the supportive environment that SWECET created.” Cheri Charles

A fulfilling path in education

“Looking at your pupil’s progress in the summer term and comparing it to the beginning of the year is fulfilling as you witness the sheer creativity, imagination and stamina it has taken them to make these steps of progress. It’s that light bulb moment where you realise how far they have progressed, not only because you’ve guided them, but also because these young minds have soaked up that knowledge and those learning experiences we are able to provide.  It’s a gratifying journey, for sure. You can’t not smile when you’re working with the children, and I am proud to be in the teaching profession.” Chelsea Dennis

Impactful contributions

“Throughout my time at the school, the Trust has supported me with lots of opportunities. One of my favourites has been designing my own RE curriculum and directly seeing the impact this has had on our students. Watching them learn, grow and engage in lessons I’ve put together makes me feel extremely fulfilled knowing I have contributed to their development.” – Jenna Chapman

IMA-awarded scholarship to a masters

“Since moving to the UK, I have fulfilled my PGCE teacher training course with an awarded IMA scholarship in the UK and progressed to a Key Stage 3 Coordinator at William Edwards School. I’m proud when I reflect on my self-growth over the past two years, owing to both my hard work and the opportunities SWECET provides. In my third year of teaching, I am still focusing on my chosen training topic, ‘Teaching for Mastery’ and I appreciate how it shapes my practice in the classroom.” – Hera Tiborcz
